Product Description
CAS: 24544-04-5
Product: 2,6-Diisopropylaniline for Herbicide, Acaricide
Product Overview
2,6-Diisopropylaniline is an organic compound with the formula H₂NC₆H₃(CHMe₂)₂ (Me = CH₃). It typically appears as a colorless liquid, though samples may exhibit yellow or brown coloration due to oxidation, which is common among aniline compounds.
Chemical Properties
Clear liquid formulation suitable for industrial applications.
Industrial Applications
2,6-Diisopropylaniline serves as a versatile intermediate in the manufacturing of:
  • Carbodiimides stabilizers
  • RIM-PUR systems
  • Synthetic resins
  • Pesticides, herbicides, acaricides
  • Antioxidants
  • Pharmaceutical compounds
  • Various specialty chemical products
Specific Chemical Uses
This compound finds application in the preparation of:
  • Multitopic Schiff-base ligand precursors
  • NSN-donor proligand, 4,5-bis(2,6-diisopropylanilino)-2,7-di-tert-butyl-9,9-dimethylthioxanthene
  • N-heterocyclic carbene complexes for α-arylation of acyclic ketones
  • Amination of haloarenes and aqueous Suzuki coupling reactions
  • Organocatalysts based on naphthalene diimides (NDIs)
Chemical Reactions
As an aromatic amine, 2,6-Diisopropylaniline undergoes condensation with triacetylmethane in the presence of p-toluenesulfonic acid to yield 3-[1-(2,6-diisopropylphenylamino)ethylidene]pentane-2,4-dione. It also reacts with bis(trimethylsilylmethyl)yttrium complexes supported by bulky amidopyridinate (Ap) and amidinate (Amd) ligands to form yttrium alkyl anilido species, with elimination of trimethylsilane (TMS).
Purification Methods
The purification process involves contacting 2,6-diisopropylaniline with an alkyl- or arylsulfonic acid to produce the corresponding sulfonic acid salt, recrystallizing the salt in an organic solvent, and subsequently treating the obtained crystals with an alkali to regenerate the purified compound.
