Mô tả sản phẩm
HEDP 1-Hydroxyethylidene-1,1-diphosphonic Acid
CAS: 2809-21-4 - Organic phosphoric acid scale and corrosion inhibitor for industrial circulating cooling water systems in power, chemical, and metallurgical applications
Corrosion Inhibition Mechanism
HEDP forms a protective film on metal surfaces, particularly carbon steel, through chemisorption of phosphonate groups onto the metal oxide layer. This barrier film significantly reduces corrosion rates by protecting against dissolved oxygen and aggressive ions. HEDP is commonly used with zinc salts or other corrosion inhibitors to enhance film formation effectiveness.

Chlorine Stability Excellent Moderate Good
Hydrolysis Resistance Excellent Good Very Good
Calcium Carbonate Inhibition Excellent Excellent Good
Calcium Phosphate Inhibition Moderate Moderate Excellent
Iron Stabilization Good Good Excellent
Thermal Stability Excellent (250°C) Good (200°C) Excellent (250°C)
Industrial Applications
Cooling Water Systems
HEDP is extensively used in recirculating cooling water systems (open and closed loops) to:
  • Control calcium carbonate and calcium sulfate scaling
  • Provide corrosion protection for carbon steel and copper alloys
  • Operate effectively under high alkalinity and high pH conditions
  • Maintain performance in the presence of chlorine and other oxidizing biocides
Typical dosage ranges from 2 to 20 mg/L.
Boiler Water Treatment
In low- to medium-pressure boilers, HEDP serves as a:
  • Scale inhibitor for calcium and magnesium deposits
  • Chelating agent to prevent sludge formation
  • Oxygen scavenger synergist
Oil and Gas Production
HEDP is used in oilfield applications for:
  • Downhole scale inhibition: Prevents barium sulfate, strontium sulfate, and calcium carbonate scaling in production wells
  • Squeeze treatments: Adsorbs onto formation rock for extended release
  • Flowline protection: Maintains flow assurance in pipelines
Reverse Osmosis (RO) Systems
As an antiscalant component, HEDP prevents membrane scaling from:
  • Calcium sulfate (CaSO₄)
  • Calcium carbonate (CaCO₃)
  • Barium sulfate (BaSO₄)
  • Strontium sulfate (SrSO₄)
Industrial Cleaning
HEDP is a key component in:
  • Descaling formulations for heat exchangers, boilers, and evaporators
  • Metal surface treatment and degreasing
  • Bottle washing and industrial cleaning applications
Textile and Dyeing
Used as a:
  • Peroxide stabilizer in bleaching processes
  • Metal ion sequestrant to prevent dye precipitation
  • Dispersant for pigments and fillers
Synergistic Formulations
HEDP is often formulated with complementary chemicals to achieve enhanced performance:
Blended With Synergistic Effect
Zinc salts Enhanced corrosion protection for carbon steel; improved film formation
Polymers (PAA, AA/AMPS) Superior dispersion of iron oxides and sludge; improved calcium phosphate control
Azoles (BTA, TTA) Copper and copper alloy corrosion protection
PBTC High-temperature stability and calcium phosphate inhibition
Molybdate Non-phosphorus corrosion inhibition synergy
Environmental Considerations
HEDP contains phosphorus, which can contribute to eutrophication in receiving waters if discharged in large quantities. However, HEDP exhibits:
  • Biodegradation: Slow to moderate biodegradability under standard test conditions (OECD 301)
  • Bioaccumulation: Low potential for bioaccumulation
  • Aquatic toxicity: Low acute toxicity (LC₅₀ > 100 mg/L for fish and daphnia)
For applications with strict phosphorus discharge limits, alternatives include:
  • PBTC (lower phosphorus content per unit activity)
  • PESA (polyepoxysuccinic acid) – phosphorus-free
  • PASP (polyaspartic acid) – phosphorus-free and biodegradable
