Περιγραφή προϊόντων
Polyacrylatesodium Aq CAS 9003-04-7 Water Treatment
Sodium polyacrylate (CAS 9003-04-7) is the sodium salt of polyacrylic acid. As a chemical polymer, it has diverse applications in consumer products due to its exceptional water absorption capacity, capable of absorbing 200-300 times its mass in water.
Property Description
Dispersant Applications Widely used as a dispersant in power plants, chemical plants, fertilizer plants, refineries, cooling water systems, paper and textile industries, ceramics, paints, and building materials. Effective for descaling and preventing precipitation in various industrial systems.
Key Characteristics
Sodium polyacrylate appears as a colorless or light yellow viscous liquid at room temperature. It is non-toxic, alkaline, insoluble in organic solvents like ethanol , but readily soluble in water and aqueous sodium hydroxide.
Molecular Properties
This water-soluble linear polymer exhibits varying physical forms based on molecular weight. Low molecular weight variants are liquid, while higher molecular weight forms appear as white powder or granules. The material is odorless, water-swellable, soluble in aqueous caustic soda, and extremely hygroscopic.
Food Grade Applications
Approved as a food grade thickener in China since 2000, sodium polyacrylate serves multiple functions in food processing:
  • Enhances adhesion to raw flour protein and improves dough texture
  • Provides strong water-holding capacity to prevent drying
  • Improves dough extensibility and stabilizes oil component dispersion
  • Acts as electrolyte for protein interaction, enhancing food viscoelasticity
Specific Food Applications
  • Bread, cakes, noodles, macaroni (0.05% usage for improved taste and raw material utilization)
  • Fish paste products, canned food, dried seaweed (strengthens organization and preserves flavor)
  • Sauces, tomato sauce, mayonnaise, jam, cream, soy sauce (as thickener and stabilizer)
  • Fruit juice, wine (as dispersant)
  • Ice cream (improves taste and stability)
  • Frozen food, aquatic products (surface jellies for preservation)
Usage Limitation: According to GB 2760-2000 standards, maximum usage in various foods is 2.0 g/kg. Japan limits maximum amount to 0.2% (1993).
Safety Profile
Toxicity: LD50 > 10g/kg (mice oral). Subacute testing showed no exceptions in rats at 0.5g/kg/day for 6 months.
Industrial Applications
  • Corrosion scale inhibitor and water stabilizer
  • Paint thickener and water retention agent
  • Flocculant for water treatment
  • Drilling mud treatment agent
  • Filtrate reducer in solid drilling industry
  • Anion detergent and dispersant for oil field water, cooling water, and boiler water treatment
Production Methods
Primary production involves reaction of acrylic acid with sodium hydroxide to form sodium acrylate, followed by polymerization using ammonium persulfate as catalyst. The process includes concentration, pH adjustment, and may involve spray drying for solid product formation.
